漢字表記について「金正恩（キム・ジョンウン）」だと明らかにした。三男の氏名は先月２７日付の人民軍指揮官人事で
大将に任命された際に初めて北朝鮮の公式報道に登場。それを受けて朝鮮通信が漢字表記を問い合わせていた。
金正恩氏は同２８日に開かれた朝鮮労働党代表者会と中央委員会総会で党中央軍事委員会副委員長、
党中央委員に選出され、金総書記の後継者であることが内外に明確になっている。

毎日新聞は、金総書記の三男の漢字表記について、北朝鮮当局が公表していなかったため、

漢字を教養としてはまだ残している韓国ならまだしも、北朝鮮は公式に
漢字を捨てた国なんだから、元が漢語だろうと、ベトナムの人名・地名と

その話はもちろん知ってますがね。自分の名前は原音になるべく近い発音で読めというのが
その朴師の要望だったわけですから、漢字ではなくカタカナで表記し、発音すればいい（日本語
の音韻体系に存在しない発音を強要したり、日本語の文字体系には含まれていないハングル
表記を強要することは現状では不可能）わけで、カタカナ表記さえあれば漢字の方は不要でしょ
ということです。
ちなみに、>>344では韓国は別扱いしましたが、個人的には韓国人の人名・地名も原則として
漢字を使わず全面的にカタカナ表記で統一すべきだと思っています。金をキムと読ませたり、
李をイと読ませたりするのは、朝鮮漢字音という新しい漢字音を日本の漢字音の中に追加する
ことにほかなりません。そうでなくても呉音漢音唐宋音と多数の異なる体系の漢字音をその内部に
持つ日本語に新たな漢字音を付け加えるのは、ネイティブの日本語話者を含む日本語学習者の
負担を増すばかりですからね。

delay could be a schism within the ruling elite, a group that “Dear Leader” Kim Jong-il himself cannot control as
effectively as before. Moreover, Kim’s health problems might have worsened much faster than outsiders guess, further
complicating matters.
Moreover, there is no hope that any new leader will get any breathing space to establish unquestioned control, given
the economy’s utter state of decay, as last year’s failed bid to reform the currency demonstrated. The regime is
under growing pressure from those at the bottom of North Korean society, and recognizes its own inability to handle
the situation. For example, for the first time, North Korea’s prime minister publicly apologized for a policy error ?
the failure of the currency redenomination.
If, say, North Korea is willing to respect international standards of economic behavior, it could be invited to join the
International Monetary Fund. Western governments also could permit charitable foundations to provide North Korean
officials or students with scholarships to study abroad and learn how to run a market economy. Of course, any
assistance to North Korea would have to be monitored closely to prevent it from being diverted for military or other
political purposes.
Yoon Young-kwan, South Korea’s foreign minister in 2003-2004, is currently a professor of international relations at
Seoul National University.

air raid. More recently, credible details are leaking out of Burma about North Korean efforts to help Than Shwe’s
repressive regime develop the same kind of capability. There is probably an even deeper relationship with Iran, though
few details have come out other than detection of high level delegations travelling from Pyongyang to Tehran. Kim
Jeong Un and his regent will likely continue pushing these horizontal escalation strategies in order to press Washington
for concessions and earn hard cash, though they will remain careful not to cross “red lines” such as transferring actual
fissile material or weapons. Since Beijing has made a strategic decision to keep the Kim Dynasty afloat rather than risk
the disruption of regime collapse and the strategic setback of a democratic unified Korean peninsula on the Chinese
border?and since starvation conditions help to keep large parts of the North Korean population docile?Pyongyang is
unlikely to fear economic sanctions enough to give up the regime’s only source of deterrence and legitimacy, namely,
nuclear weapons.

nuclear threat. There is some utility to maintaining a channel to Pyongyang for purposes of escalation control and
possible future negotiations, but for now the only reliable means of containing the North Korean threat is to constrict
it from the outside. Meanwhile, U.S. officials should join with South Korea in ongoing preparations for the possible
collapse of the North. North Korea has become a quasi-medieval Stalinist criminal syndicate that even the most
ruthless twenty-seven-year old would have difficulty holding together . . . even if he is now officially the “Great
General.”
